Here, enchanting young women in Ukrainian folk costumes would treat our hero to the most delicious, most delicious dishes of Ukrainian cuisine. After all, how could anyone resist peasant-style potatoes with cracklings, Grandma’s Poltava-style dumplings, jellied meat, duck with apples—especially when all this and the rest of the bounty of Ukrainian cuisine is washed down with honey-lemon kvass, cranberry and berry kissel, and uzvar?!

After all, it’s no coincidence that the brilliant Kotlyarevsky fed his character Aeneas Poltava-style dumplings, Poltava-style varenyky, and Ukrainian borscht with pampushky before every important event! Remember:

There were five pots of soup,

And four of them contained dumplings,

There was just under six portions of borscht;

There were countless boiled lambs,

Roasted chickens, geese, and ducks,

Enough for everyone to eat their fill.

And once, the famous Poltava dumplings not only helped him keep up the morale of his comrades-in-arms, but also served as weapons themselves:

For bullets, they dried dumplings,

For bombs, they molded them out of clay,

And salted plums—for grapeshot…

“If the legendary hero Aeneas—so eloquently celebrated by the Roman poet Virgil and by Ivan Petrovich Kotlyarevsky of Poltava—were alive today, he would begin his journey through Ukraine by visiting the glorious city of Poltava—the birthplace of one of his biographers. Along the way, at the 234-kilometer mark on the Kyiv–Poltava highway, he would certainly stop at the Ukrainian café “U Sester.”

Our History

19 May 1996

The Regional State Administration has awarded our café the second price category. The family bought a trailer and set up a dining area inside it.

1998 year

A decision has been taken to expand production, and construction of the new café premises has begun. Our craftsmen have woven huts from wicker and reeds to set up a summer market.

1999 year

A new two-storey café has opened. According to the plans, the ground floor is dedicated to the café, whilst the first floor is for the hotel.

2000 year

Renovation of the first floor: instead of hotel rooms, there is now a banquet hall.

2001 year

The "U Sester" cafe has been named a winner in the "100 Best Enterprises in Ukraine" category.

2002 year

Participation in the 4th Congress of Ukraines Business, Scientific and Creative Communities. Awarded the "Golden Jaguar" honorary prize.

2002-2004 year

The "Zamok" motel complex has been built (comprising two buildings, a sauna and a chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, the patron saint of all travellers).

2005

The motel has been awarded a *** rating. Comfort and tranquillity - all for you.

2005 year (August )

Participation in the National Sorochynsk Fair. The café was awarded a certificate "For the preservation of national traditions". Authentic Ukrainian cuisine and national character are the hallmarks of our cafe.

2005 year (December)

The "GARBUZyK" restaurant opened in Kyiv.

2006 year

International recognition. In Vienna (Austria), we were presented with the "European Quality Mark" award.

2009 year (March)

The "U Sester" pizzeria opened in Poltava.

2009 (June)

The pizzeria played an active part in organising the Poltava Galushka Festival. It was awarded a certificate for coming second in the "Battle of Poltava - Battle of the Chefs" competition (the competition dish was "Cossack galushkas").

2009 (December)

The "U Sester" guesthouse opened in the resort town of Skhidnytsia, Lviv Oblast, offering wholesome and healthy meals, accommodation in cosy, comfortable rooms, a homely atmosphere and a great location.

2010 (June)

The pizzeria played an active role in organising the Poltava Dumpling Festival. It was awarded a certificate and a diploma for first place in the "Battle of Poltava - Battle of the Chefs" competition (competition dish: "Crowned Dumplings").

2010 (December)

The "U Seste" cafe came third in the "Restaurants of Ukraine - 2010" category as part of the Doroga.UA project

2011 (February)

The "U Sester" cafe was honoured by the "Public Recognition" image programme, receiving a certificate and the "Benchmark of Quality" statuette.

2011 (June)

The pizzeria played an active role in organising the Poltava Dumpling Festival. It was awarded a certificate of merit and a certificate for first place in the "Battle of Poltava - Battle of the Chefs" competition (competition dish: Cossack "Chaika" with dumplings).

2011 (September)

The pizzeria played an active part in the first "ECO-FEST POLTAVA" environmental festival (a celebration of beauty, youth and harmony with nature), organised to mark Poltava City Day.

We have created a special festive menu for banquets, from which you can choose your favourite dishes to treat your guests.
